Don't ever become a foster parent

Don’t ever become a foster parent.

Not if you don’t want your life to be changed forever.

Not if you don’t want to forever see life with a different lens.

Not if you don’t want to forever hold the brokenness of children and babies and teens directly in your heart.

Or see neglect and abuse in a different light.

Or lose your breath advocating.

Or be shattered by what walks through your door.

And absolutely under no circumstances adopt.

Not unless you forever want to have to fight for answers and restoration daily.

Or want to remind a child who’s been abused that they are in fact loved.

Or remind a child who has been abandoned that you will never leave—even 7 years after they’ve been placed in your home.

Not if you want life to look perfect.

Because I promise you fostering will change you forever. Adoption will break away every piece of you and force you to look in the mirror.

No don’t adopt. Don’t foster—-unless of course you wish to never be the same person you once were—but rather the version that shows you the strength you have, the fierceness you possess, and the fight within you.

In that case—definitely do it because honestly all of us will never be the same after welcoming stories of pain into our homes temporarily or forever.
