4-Year-Old Boy Arrives with Clothes Too Small After Emergency Placement

Another organization in Broward county reached out to us last week regarding a 4 year old little boy who had just been placed with his cousin. When he arrived he came with 2 outfits that were 2 sizes too small. Due to being removed from domestic violence in the home it was an emergency to get him to safety and he was not able to bring any of his belongings with him.

The cousin was able to purchase a few shirts and pants for him and stated that she was washing clothing every single day as she could not afford to purchase anything else for him. Oftentimes what people don't realize is kinship caregivers do not get assistance from the state for months. The backlog and process for paperwork can take an extremely long time and this can cause the financial hardship of families to be severe.

Our co-director in Broward immediately packed clothing, shoes, and other items for this sweet boy and made the delivery to the family herself. The next day these words were received from the relative reminding us it's more than just a bag of belongings arriving at the doorstep, but rather a reminder that these children and families belong in part of a community.

"I wanted to say THANK YOU SO MUCH! We are truly grateful for the items! Over the last 3 weeks we have washed the same few items. Now we can actually create a nice drawer of items for him to last at least 3 weeks. Your constant communication, presentation of items, and generosity is not unnoticed. There are no words to thank you all!"
